About Us

Rubba is a nonprofit organization founded by South African and American youth in 2003. The organization, whose name is an acronym for Rappers United By Beating AIDS, was initially focused on using hip-hop music to foster an interactive musical dialogue among African youth and provide them with a voice in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

In 2004, our partners in Sierra Leone requested that we expand our joint project to address other issues in addition to HIV and AIDS. As a war-torn nation, many of the project's songwriters had served as child soldiers and wanted to write songs to share their experiences and promote peace.

The incredible success of this program demonstrated music's tremendous power as a communicative and educational tool. In 2005, the mission was expanded to support any musical initiative throughout the world that promotes positive social change.

Rubba provides financial and technical support to local artists who are using their voice to address local concerns. Funds are used to cover recording, production, and distributional costs. Our experienced team of volunteer musical professionals provide assistance to artists on an ongoing basis. Additionally, Rubba is developing synergies within the music industry to help our local artists.
